The tone undergoes an immediate shift, showing just a fraction of the ventriloquism of which Ward is so capable, although this chapter as a whole is less successful than its predecessor. Esther, a deaf and motherless maid, is desired by her artist employer, while his family bristles with suspicion; despite his attempts to disguise her, his portrait of a maid is clearly based on. Next it's the turn of Angelika Kauffman, with girl Reading sensitive story of bereavement and love between women set infollowed by a tale of photography and spiritualism in Victorian London.
This fourth chapter forms one of the most achieved and well-paced sections of the novel, with a fascinating story of identical twins whose girl Reading have diverged so dramatically that they are all but estranged.

My favourite-and-very-specific genre of books are those about Hairy escorts Sheffield and paintings if we want to get more specific Dutch paintings of the golden age so this should have been perfect for me.
Nineteenth-century European art 3rd ed. She writes about paintings which show women reading or writing and it gets very clever and metaphysical. The artist spots her and uses her as an unknowing subject.
I'm glad though this book wasn't really to my personal taste that someone attempted to do a book like this.
I didn't have either of those problems, I think I have developed a style of reading for books like this based on reading Cloud Atlas Reasing and The Time Traveler's Wife where you just have to absorb it, not get too bogged down in the detail and let yourself get the atmosphere and the impression.

I read some reviews beforehand and found it a bit silly the way so many people were going on about lack of speech marks, but I think that actually sums up the author's attempts to do everything a bit differently, with hit and miss results. If you're a lover of books girl Reading are written in a way that honors the words that go into them, Girl Reading is for you.
